This module covers the necessary internal upgrades of the STM setup which are required for Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) measurements. Radio frequency (RF) signals are delivered through dedicated lines which we will discuss.

it seems that the antena can induce less heat loss in the STM head. i wondering if the temperature of this kind of ESR-STM which couples the DC bias and AC voltage through a bias-tee can reach 400mk when using the He3 refrigeration?thank you.

Denis Krylov

Hi Yu! Currently, we don’t have an evidence that the heat loss is much different between the tip and antenna cases (cables are thermalized in the same way). The base temperature of the STM will depend on the RF power. For CW measurements it is possible to keep the STM temperature between 300 and 400 mK.

Liu Yu

Thank you. Have you tried the 40GHz rf power transmisson?

Denis Krylov

Mostly, the experiments are done in the range between 10-30GHz, and the maximum frequency of our AWG is 36GHz.

Liu Yu

thanks a lot.

William Paul

In the CW measurements at IBM Almaden we could definitely heat the STM at frequencies that had high attenuation in the transfer function.
